1.Plants
A simple and inexpensive plant that can be found at the local nursery, farmers markets or online can instantly add life to any room in a home.
If you do not possess a green thumb there are plenty of plants that are really hard to kill: Pothos, Aloe Vera, Cast Iron, Snake Plant, Spider Plant, Peace Lilly, Bamboo and succulents just to mention a few.
Try to stick to a real plant, fake plants attract more dust than real ones and besides according to the Feng Shui, living plants strengthen the energy of your home.
2. Pillows/throws/curtains or drapes
Pillows, throws, and curtains (or drapes) add softness to an area. Also, add a pop of color to a room with neutral furniture.
3. Re-purposing existing furniture
Furnitures just like everything else at the moment are getting really expensive. What about painting some of your existing end or coffee tables, or a dresser with a coat of paint. One 1/4-pint size can do for a dresser or a piece of furniture.
4. paint/wallpaper
Painting a wall is easier than adding a wallpaper to a room, in addition wallpaper is more expensive than paint, but is a beautiful alternative way to add texture and warmth to any room. If never installed a wallpaper, I would start in a small place like a guess bathroom or an accent wall.
5. lighting
There are two ways to upgrade a room by lighting. One would be by just changing the color temperature, or the intensity of your light bulb. The other way by changing the fixture or just the lamp shade. By changing the color temperature of your light bulb from a cool white (or 5000 Kelvin) to a warm light (or 2500 Kelvin) one can add warmth to a room and make it more cozy and therefore changing the ambience of the room.
Instead of changing the lamp changing the light fixture itself for something that reflects more light as with a fixture with a cover that could amplify the intensity of the light.
6. wall decor
There are many ways to acquire wall decor at a budget. Farmer’s Market, Yard sale or DIY project. My favorite is the DIY project and if you have children this could be a fun project that can teach how to be creative and resourceful. One way could be re-purposing existing picture frames. Re-use the frame and add your own personal pictures. Or using a block frame and add dried flowers or plants.
7. nice area rug
I left this last item for last. A good, lasting area rug is not cheap. Always get the biggest area rug that you could afford that fits your room. I got this idea from the you-tuber Julie Khuu. In one of her videos, she explains the correct way to size an area rug. The bottom line is the furniture legs should be inside the entire area rug.
